Thank you for your interest in the Florida A&M University Southern California (SoCal) Alumni Association’s scholarship program. Our Chapter is a non-profit with a mission to participate as a partner with the university in supporting its continued success through student recruitment, alumni retention, expansion, financial support, public relations and community outreach to California candidates.

Founded in 1887, FAMU itself has a rich history of serving Florida and the nation for over 126 years. FAMU was recognized among the 2014 U.S. News & World Report’s “Best National Universities.” The U.S. News & World Report lists FAMU as the top public historically black college or university in the nation for 2015. It is also listed among The Princeton Review’s “Best in the Southeast” colleges and is one of the top picks for providing a high quality education at an affordable price, according to The College Database (2013).

FAMU also graduates more African Americans than any other university in the United States. It produces more African American pharmacists, teachers, journalists, and engineers than any other university in the country.

In addition, the SoCal Chapter has provided scholarships to over 165 California students attending FAMU. In addition to scholarships, we continue to support FAMU through various activities, including student recruitment events and donations to the university.

We continuously focus our scholarship awards on recipients from California communities. All applications should be returned and postmarked by June 20, 2020 to the Attention of the Scholarship Committee. Notifications of awards will be sent out mid-summer.

All candidates may want to keep in mind that this is a process. We will be in correspondence with scholarship recipients throughout the 2020-2021 school year. Therefore, on the application please specify whether you would like current and future correspondence to be forwarded to your mailing address or your permanent address. Please also make sure that we have your current cell phone number and email address. If you move, go on internship, or otherwise not reachable at the address of choice, please contact us immediately in order to update your information. Unless otherwise specified, we will default all correspondence to your permanent address.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Chapter Scholarship Chair, Arthur Davis at (805) 490-4928 or email [email protected]

Thank you and good luck!
